CLEVELAND – The clap of sonic booms echoed off the Downtown Cleveland skyline as the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, Shockwave Jet Truck and F-35 Raptor headlined a day packed full of fun at Burke Lakefront Airport on Saturday.
A day mixed with specialty aerobatics – including the Geico Skytypers, Lucas Oil bi-plane and the U.S. Army Golden Knights brought out throngs of aviation fans – young and old.
“About time we got to see a real aircraft,” shouted an Air Force reservist running to the fence line as the U.S. Air National Guard C-130 Hercules based in Mansfield, simply known as “Damien”, taxi’d to the runway. No surprise the crewman was partial – he was giving tours aboard the same plane out of the Youngstown Air Base.
Day two gets underway on Sunday at 9 AM.
