Girard wins battle of previously unbeatens vs Jefferson, 21-6

Indians QB Bengala tallies 471 total yards and two touchdowns

JEFFERSON – Big plays from senior quarterback Nic Bengala tilted the scales as Girard (4-0) managed to outdo Jefferson (3-1) with a 21-6 win on Friday. The Indians led 7-6 going into halftime, as both teams traded defensive stops and costly miscues thru the first two quarters. They tacked on insurance scores in the third and fourth quarters.

The Falcons lone touchdown came in the second quarter as senior WR/RB Trent Hodge swept 52 yards down the right sideline behind the pulled blocking of 255-lb lineman Mason Pawlowski.

For Bengala, it was a big day all-around. His 228 yards passing were nearly matched by 225 yards rushing, as well as 18 yards receiving (3 catches). He accounted for two of the Indians scores, one rushing and one in the air.

Jefferson will travel to Niles-McKinley (2-2) for another NE8 Conference matchup next Friday (9/16). The Red Dragons, coming off of a 21-13 loss to Lakeview, have yet to record a victory at home this season.
