Falcons momentum sparks Warriors

Edgewood pulls away 2x to defeat Jefferson, 57-45

The Edgewood girls hoops team improved to 7-0 on the season with a, 57-45, win over Jefferson (4-5) on Tuesday. In an unusual twist, it was rallies by the Falcons that seemed to spur on the Warrior offensive outbursts that put them ahead.

Halfway thru the second quarter, Jefferson guard Tatum Bordeaux ran a five point play, rebounding her own missed free throw off of the “and-one” of a field goal, draining a three-pointer. The Falcons seemingly having all the momentum, it was Edgewood that cranked up the intensity to open a 9-0 run enroute to their first big lead, 23-13 ahead of halftime.

Katie McCollister scored eight of her game-high 24 points in the span, while teammates converted 6-of-12 free throws.

The Warriors expanded their lead to 20 points as the second half played out. But again, Jefferson was resilient inching back to within two points.

Que McCollister – again!

The Edgewood guard rattled off seven points in the fourth quarter, book-ended by key three-pointers from Avery Vencill and Annie Johnston to re-take a double digit lead they would not relinquish. The Warriors would finish 14-26 at the free throw line.

Mia Contenza led Jefferson with 15 points, with Bordeaux right there contributing 14 of her own.

UP NEXT: Edgewood will host Pymatuning Valley (3-1) on Friday 12/22 at 5 PM as the front end of a boys/girls varsity double feature. Jefferson’s next opponent is down time. They don’t face another team until after the new year, hosting Harvey (2-5) on Jan. 5th.
