17 hits, 17 runs as Jefferson shuts out Conneaut

JEFFERSON – Junior Devin Salinas, sophomore Michael Riffle and senior Toby Dickson set the tone as the Jefferson Falcons (1-3) picked up their first win of the young baseball season, 17-0, over Conneaut on Wednesday.

After mustering only two runs in their first two games, the Falcons offense whipped up 14 RBI against the Spartans. Two apiece from Riffle (3 hits), George Dzura and Luke Lambert. Salinas was 3-for-4 on the day, including a double and a triple.

On the mound, Dickson allowed only one hit in four innings of work for the Falcons. He fanned nine Conneaut hitters to get the win. Salinas came on in relief, walking two and striking out two, while preserving the shutout.

ON DECK: Jefferson is back on the road at Struthers on Friday night. That’s a late contest slated for 7 p.m.. Conneaut (0-4) which has now given up 48 runs over the last three games will try to turn things around on Saturday, at Brookfield.
